Are bamboo curtains transparent?
We’re aiming to deliver higher strand count curtains than the competition, but please note that due to the fact that these are loose hanging strands pf bamboo beads, opaque coverage is not possible. However, the density of 135 strands will be a significant improvement over 70 or 90 strands…
Also, please keep in mind that a bamboo curtain will conceal what’s behind it if the room you’re in is brighter than the room behind it. If the opposite is true, the lighter space behind the curtain will be visible, albeit obscured by the curtain and its design/pattern.
Can bamboo curtains be shortened?
If you wanted to hang one of our curtains in a window rather than a doorway you may find it too long. However, several of our customers have shortened their curtains simply by unhooking the metal wire pieces that are chained together inside the bamboo shafts. But, the artisans that produced these curtains weren’t counting on that, so after you have taken off beads you will end up with a ragged bottom end. If that fits your look perfectly you’re done. If you are the arduous type you could go a step further and trim the beads and wire to obtain the straight bottom look you’re after…
What do I need to hang bamboo curtains?
Our bamboo curtains come fully assembled and ready to hang. All you need to do is lift it out of the box it comes in, mark with a pencil through the eyelets on top where you want to drill, and then either bring in the big drill (if you’re a man) with all the bits, or simply hammer a nail, screw, or hook (if you’re a woman) in the marked spot… Time: 45 minutes for males, 3 minutes for females.
How are the bamboo curtains made?
Let’s start at the top:
A wooden bar holds the dangling strands. It has eyelets on top for hanging it on nails, screws, or hooks (which you supply). If you want to shorten the rod, simply cut between the strands. If you want to lengthen it, buy two curtains. You can hang your curtain in the doorway, in front, or behind it, depending on your circumstances. We do not do custom sizes.
The bamboo beads are hollow shafts of bamboo and are strung onto metal brass wire, which are looped so that the next section can hook through the loop, forming a flexible joint.
The bamboo beads are painted all around so that the curtain looks good from any angle. In the case of natural bamboo the beads are lightly varnished. And that’s how they’re made.
Are your bamboo bead curtains water/weather resistant?
Where do you live? In Death Valley or in Seattle? Nothing lasts forever, but our bamboo bead curtains have graced many a patio, lanai, garden fence, surf and garden shack doorway. For how long? We wouldn’t know. Consider that they’re made of a natural material, bamboo, as the name implies. The bamboo is painted with color or varnished when it’s plain, and then it’s strung onto brass wire. You draw your own conclusions. They will last a couple of summers, winters, and a spring outside and maybe several more, but it’s not an outdoors product persé and its condition and appearance will change, just like yours, so you’re taking your changes depending on your climatological and geographical circumstances. If you like their design, go for it. If you’re looking for something that will stand the teeth of time, may I suggest you make your own from galvanized pipe…
Are your handpainted bamboo curtains reversible?
From the web page’s product description: “Made of hundreds of small pieces of bamboo, called ‘beads,’ with each bead hand-painted 360 degrees, so that they look great from both sides and at any angle.”
Do bamboo curtains come in different sizes?
Sorry, they only come in the posted sizes of 36”x79”, or 90×200cm. If you need curtains to be wider you can do what many customers have done: buy two and adjust the width of one, then hang them together. You can cut the wooden rod from which the strands dangle easily with a small saw. If you need symmetry, simply cut a left and right piece and extend your central curtain that way. If you need a smaller curtain, also consider that you may be able to hang it behind the doorway, rather than in the doorway. You can also hang it in front.
For those that need a longer curtain, we were sent pictures by a customer who had simply overlapped a curtain valanche-style, then removed the beads to where they would no longer touch a person’s head, thereby covering up the rod of the curtain behind it…
Imagine your options!
Can you send me a catalog?

We’re looking forward to hearing from you again.
What color are the mats on your matted prints?
Our mats are off white/antique white in color and lean towards light cream.
At this time we do not offer other colors or custom matting. However, we can send you the pictures unmatted if you prefer, so you can do your own matting. In that case you must type “UNMATTED” in the comment box during checkout if you order via the website.
I don't like to use my credit card online...
We hear you! Of course, there are horror stories about stolen identities, etc., but consider this: every day billions of online transactions take place involving credit cards and all are safely processed, so why not yours? Today, we and every other online retailer accepting credit cards have to comply with stringent credit card company standards that stipulate that all payment information is automatically encrypted and securely transmitted without the merchant having any access to your credit card number and other sensitive information. So then, why would you want to bypass such security to speak to a person you never met and hand over all the information you deem sensitive, including your card’s security number? Additionally, this information will have to be written down and then exists on a piece of paper… which of course we are required to destroy safely after processing your order. Still, theoretically it keeps the possibility of fraud open…
By now, you can tell that we’re big believers in the smart programmers and engineers that have come up with safe internet payment gateways and in fact we exist by their grace and the trust we have earned with thousands of satisfied customers who have ordered from us over the years, either online, or by placing a call at our toll-free number 909-297-5275.
However, consider two alternatives to ordering by phone or entering credit card information online: Google Checkout and Paypal. Both payment sytems require you to securely enter your payment information only once and from then on you only have to approve payment whenever you place an order. These systems block out all sensitive information for the merchant. Of course, we have all the above discussed options in place during checkout to make your online shopping experience a safe and satisfying one. And remember, you are always protected against fraudulent purchases on your card by your card issuer, so I’d say there’s very little risk if any and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy online from any company that appears legitimate.
Will you be shipping the poster I ordered flat or rolled?
Posters are shipped rolled up and protected in a shipping tube. Shrink-wrapped matted prints are shipped flat in a box. They do not fit together in a box. Thus, an order containing posters and matted prints, or other merchandise, likely requires separate shipments.
I've seen the same print offered in a larger size...
Yes, we have too, because several vendors (especially on eBay) choose to list the paper size at 24”x36” rather than the image size which is usually smaller. 24” is a common roll paper size, so don’t be confused. We choose to list the image sizes (20”x28” or 16”x20”) because that’s what you need to know if you’re thinking about matting or framing your art. While the word “poster” is commonly used for a large 4-color offset print on flimsy paper, our prints are manufactured on special heavyweight archival paper with 8-color archival inks, so we stand up well to the competition, some of whom are actually selling counterfeit copies of our prints we discovered.
A poster does not come matted, which is why you see matted prints listed separately below the posters. Posters arrive rolled up in a tube. Matted prints are shipped flat. Most orders ship within several days. Matted, or framing orders may take longer.
The USPS website says it has not received my package...
Actually, a trip to usps.com with the Delivery Confirmation you received from us states they have been electronically notified by the shipper (i.c. our computer’s shipping system that weighs each package and prints out postage). However, on the day you are notified we take all packages to the post office and drop them off at the business section with postage already applied.
USPS confuses things a bit as it states: “Please, note that it may take up to 24 hours before the acceptance scan for Delivery Confirmation is registered in the USPS mail-stream.” That may be true if you wait in line and have your package processed by the clerk.
Also, note that APO destination shipments are processed at the final destination by non-USPS personnel, and therefore Delivery Confirmation Tracking does not apply. Delivery of Signature Confirmation number is NOT a tracking number! If you attempt to “track” the package on the USPS website you should be aware that the package is frequently NOT being scanned until it is being delivered, hence the name “Delivery Confirmation.”
How long does it take to ship?
We ship most smaller items via USPS Priority Mail and larger ones via UPS Ground. Priority Mail takes between 3-5 working days to reach you, and UPS Ground between 7-10 days. There’s also time involved in processing your order, usually between 2-4 days depending on how many orders we receive. Then, packaging and carrier pickup may take an extra day. Occasionally, an item will need to be picked up from a distributor or manufacturer. Lastly, not all items ship from Hawaii, and we maintain warehouse space on the mainland US so we can be competitive with shipping cost. If you need it in a hurry, contact us, but with so many factors and other companies involved we can’t make firm promises about a specific delivery date, so the above information applies in general.
I haven't received my package!
Aye! Not good, because we are in the mail order business and we can only stay in business if you receive the goods you ordered. However, you must understand that once it’s shipped, your package is in the hands of either UPS or USPS.
If you received a tracking or delivery confirmation you should contact the appropriate carrier. If you haven’t received or misplaced our shipping confirmation, please contact us.
Has my order shipped yet?
If you received a message from us with as subject: SHIPPING PACKAGE TO (YOUR NAME) then your package was shipped that day via USPS Priority Mail. If you had read that message you’d noticed a Delivery Confirmation Number. It’s NOT a tracking number, as USPS doesn’t track shipments the way Fedex does. If you went to the USPS website and entered that number it reports only a notification message.
Please, note that APO destination shipments are processed at the final destination by non-USPS personnel, and therefore Delivery Confirmation Tracking does not apply.
If your package was delivered the USPS website will report when and where.
Do you have a store I can visit?
The short answer is, no. We used to operate one of the kiosks in Honolulu’s Ala Moana Center where we sold our vintage prints, frames, and posters. The rent was $6,000/month and killing us. Then 2 planes flew into the Twin Towers and the place went dead for many months. No Japanese, no mainlanders. No tourists whatsoever. Management (General Growth Inc.), ever practising aloha, doubled the rent for Nov and Dec as they had historically done (for no other reason than to bleed vendors off their xmas profits) and to make a sad story sadder, we left several months later with an enormous debt that took us many months to pay off. So, we put our business online, first working out of the bedroom, then the kitchen AND the livingroom, and today we use warehousing and shipping services in Honolulu, California, and New York. That’s the long, insightful, and historically relevant answer.
